Welcome to
The Way of the Wave
Karate Dojo

A traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu karate school.

USING NO WAY
AS WAY;

having no limitation as limitation.
~Bruce Lee

Our Specialization

We train the same way the masters in Okinawa, Japan do. Utilizing traditional tools and teachings passed down through the generations.

What We Do

We begin with warm-ups and stretches. Then practice basic strikes, blocks, and stances. We then move into katas (fighting forms) and various drills pulled out of the katas. Finally, applications, body conditioning, and exercises are repeatedly practiced. A video will be posted shortly below.

Our Instructors

Trevor Silvers

Trevor Silvers Sensei is the owner and teacher of The Way of the Wave Karate Dojo. He was awarded Shodan from the Jundokan, the headquarters of Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do, and then Nidan from the Okinawa Goju Ryu Kenkyu Kai.

Trevor began his training of Gojuryu under the expert instruction of Mark Kapel Sensei, 6th Dan, at Mountain Martial Arts in New Jersey. Kapel Sensei trained directly under Debaise Sensei of Staten Island, and is a student of Miyazato Sensei and Taira Sensei in Okinawa.

Trevor has studied many martial arts styles over the years in various dojos. None could keep his interest or fulfill what he was searching for. Until one day his search led him to Mountain Martial Arts, where he found an authentic style of the martial arts that he had always been seeking, Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do. The unique style and traditional methods of training compelled him to drive over an hour to his dojo 4 to 5 days a week! Trevor has traveled to various Gasshukus (training camps) in the United States, as well as, Okinawa, where he received his Shodan, 1st degree black belt. Trevor has enjoyed the opportunity to train with instructors including Chuck Merriman Sensei 9th Dan, Hiroshi Ganaha Sensei 7th dan, and Masaji Taira Sensei, 8th Dan. Always a student, Silvers Sensei continues his life long journey researching, training, and teaching Goju Ryu Karate Do…
